INTRODUCING SPFee (TM)Posted: February 25, 2008 - 1
These scarves have been made from SPFee (TM) - a brand new Soy Protein Fibre yarn dyed by Laura.

The yarn has 2000 yards per pound and is made of several strands of a fine 2 ply yarn.

It is very soft and supple, comfortable to wear. The manufacturer indicates that it has numerous benefits such as anti-bacterial properties.

It is made from the soy bean cake after the oil has been expressed using the new technology where the solvent agents have been recaptured and reused, making this yarn environmentally friendly as well as a really nice yarn to work with!

Dyed skeins are approx. 550 yards, which is enough to make a warp for a scarf. Wefts can be the SPFee, bamboo, Tencel, cotton, silk - I've even used wool with it and been pleased with the resulting cloth.

The scarves were woven at 20 epi in a 2:2 twill. The aqua scarf used Teal bamboo (Bambu 7) as weft. The coral scarf used 2/16 soy protein as weft.

Another SPFee Scarf!Posted: October 12, 2007 - 2
I have three words about SPFee: I want more! I am delighted with both the process of weaving this yarn and the product. SPFee is substantial without being hefty; the selvedge threads did not fray or break or threaten to, and the warp tension remained taut during the weaving. While this scarf has enough substance to actually keep one's swan-like neck warm, and it is drapey and elegant enough to wear indoors. SPFee replaces Tencel at the top of my list of favorite scarf-making ingredients. Thanks so much for introducing me to this terrific yarn, Laura. Now -- when can I order more?? Sherry G.
