For comfort and ease treadling, make sure your bench is the right height. Your elbows should just clear the breast beam when you sit upright, your hips should be higher than your knees.

Rather than lift your leg to move your foot, bend your leg at the knee, sliding your foot along the treadle, rocking forward with your upper body to help press down on the treadle. Rest the foot not treadling on the hinge of the treadle, sliding your feet back and forth.

When using an adjacent treadle, heel and toe your foot to the next, rather than lifting your whole leg.
