This morning the mail consisted of my two copies of WEFT. I subscribed ‘early’ so I have ‘my’ copy, plus I get a physical copy of the magazine when I have an article appearing between the pages.
I chose to write about the things we ‘waste’ when we practice our craft. I chose to talk about not ‘wasting’ our bodies by using processes/motions that could, over time, cause injury. I talked about ‘wasting’ our money by having equipment that doesn’t meet our needs.
And so on.
It’s a ‘story’ I have been telling for literally decades. But not everyone has the ‘history’ of hearing/reading what I – and others – advise.
If anyone has been following me for anytime, my articles will not likely present anything ‘new’ because I write about the same sorts of things, over and over again.
I try to find a different perspective, a different way, of presenting the information. Because as one person expressed it, “It doesn’t help me understand if you just keep saying the same thing, over and over again.”
So, I try. I try to give the best information I can. I try to relay the information using different examples, different approaches. I try to see from their viewpoint, if I can.
All of this is to say…I will continue to ‘teach’ for as long as I am able. When one comes closer to the ‘end’ of their lives, choices must be made. My body is telling me to stop doing certain things.
But I am also 2+ years beyond the brain injury, and I have come back enough that, while not where I would like to be, I can still talk about weaving.
We are now halfway through the current online seminar series. I have learned a great deal in the process of getting to this point. And now that I know some things, I feel like it would be a waste to quit now. Hopefully I will not repeat the mistakes I made getting here. But I will likely make different mistakes.
And that is just being human.
So, I have settled a few things, picked dates, will not adjust the price but *will* have another ‘early bird’ registration period, beginning in early December. Mostly what I have learned was how to better administer the ‘housekeeping’ of keeping track of a group of people across multiple time zones. Right now I’m still trying to figure out how Zoom is going to handle (or not) the fact that my province no longer changes time from daylight to standard. We are now on permanent daylight savings and will swing between Pacific Zone in the summer and Mountain Zone in the winter.
I’m not sure if Zoom is able to accommodate all the ‘exceptions’ to the time zones, so I will poke around their website and see what they are doing – if anything – about that.
