Mini Milestone

Yesterday I hit a mini-milestone – I completed the green place mats and made a start on the tow linen.

I will be happy to complete the weaving of these mats. I’m not a huge fan of two shuttle weaving, in the first place, although at times it is necessary. With my AVL and multiple box fly shuttle it was less…painful…than handling the two shuttles by hand. But I gave up the fly shuttle when I ‘retired’ the AVL so…throwing two shuttles is what needs to happen.

I am also waiting to hear back if either of my ideas for WEFT are suitable. If not, that’s okay. There are plenty of other weavers in the world with wonderful ideas and approaches to the craft. I’ll look forward to learning from them.

Because there is always, *always* something more to learn.

We are also well into the return of the sun. Instead of staying light until nearly 10 pm, it is full dark by 9. And this year will not be ‘falling back’ to standard time. Not sure it is going to make *our* life better. And the farther you go, the less difference it will make as there are swathes of our country that have darkness 24/7 for weeks. But maybe it will help those in the southern part.

This coming winter is threatening to become even more ‘interesting’ than it has been.

I will try to focus on the things I *can* do (thank you Mr. Carney for the reminder) and do those.

After getting my will finalized, I still have some ‘tidying’ to do to make what comes after easier. But I find myself exhausted by the world and my own body. Perhaps things will get better once the current crop of wildfires have been contained, if not put out entirely, and the economic uncertainty begins to look more settled.

I still have a number of weeks to complete the tow linen. And, honestly, the ‘anniversary’ of the ‘new’ me is coming up. To say I have mixed feelings right now might be a bit of an understatement.

But I also have a few threads of hope I am trying to spin into a ‘better’ result for me, my body, my life. Tuesday I do for the first session of pain reprocessing. Like everything else, I have been warned that it may take time. But honestly, I have the time? I preserve my energy for getting to the loom and chaff at the restriction. But it seems I *can* still weave…so I will carry on.

I’m not sure how many place mats I can get on the rest of this warp (24?) and if that will use up the entirety of the cone. But I suspect that by the end of this warp I will have had my fill of weaving with two shuttles. So I’m looking around at other techniques. And waiting to see if WEFT wants one of my ideas. Because I will need to weave some samples, given I will be using a new-to-me yarn.

Onwards!
