I had hoped to get the current warp off the loom today, but we had a double dose of vaccines booked at midday (Covid and flu) and instead of weaving I’m making a pan of oat squares (because I ran out) and tomorrow will also be a light duty day because I have more ‘therapy’, after which it is better to rest than weave.
In spite of my desire to finish this warp, AND the last of the red tow linen.
Overall I’m pleased enough with the cloth. I think it will perform well as place mats. It was out of my ‘comfort’ zone because it was a lot of two shuttle weaving. But once I got into a rhythm and accepted that it was going to be slower than using a single shuttle, it became quite satisfying. One more session at the loom and it will be done.
With the vaccines today and the massage therapy tomorrow, I have a list of ‘light duty’ tasks to do. There are the silk scarves that need trimming, and I could begin the inspection/repair of the 10 place mats I took off the loom already and do that. The seven left in the loom now can be done separately and then all of them (22 in total) can be wet finished together. And then the hemming, final pressing, tags. Done is never ‘done’ until the entire process is complete.
I have the draft for the next warp which will be for tea towels, and I will use up that linen I showed the other day, plus whatever I can of the 2/16 yarn. I have bits and pieces of several colours and, if there is still warp left, I can use white weft. I *may* use the 2/20 mercerized just to add a little more depth to the cloth. TBD.
It was quite a lovely day today, mostly sunny with some clouds. A bit chilly, but not terrible. It was a ‘busy’ day and I’m tired. So I’m going to go veg and take the pan of oat squares out of the oven when the buzzer goes. And I’ll have a snack tonight.
Onwards…
