Sally Pointer

Sally Pointer is an archeologist specializing in experimental – or perhaps I could say experiential – archeology.

Today when I finally started tackling my silk scarves to get them closer to ready for the guild sale at the end of this month, I grabbed my ipad and checked in the Podcast app for what the textile oriented podcasts had I might find interesting.

Today it was the Long Thread podcast, featuring Sally Pointer.

I’m not sure how and when I ‘discovered’ Sally Pointer, but I’ve been following her on Faceback for a while and she always seems to be looking at something interesting, regarding textiles.

(“I’ve never met a craft I didn’t like.”)

She has some books and papers, one of which is her book on Nalbinding. She is also working on a new book on netting, hopefully due out next year.

The interview is about 45 minutes and there were some real gems. I enjoyed her enthusiasm and excitement about learning more about textiles – when working with fibre and yarn first began, what kinds of finds that she found especially fascinating, and her enthusiasm about not just learning about but teaching others.

If you are interested her web site is here and there are links to her books. I didn’t look at everything but there were some photos of textiles.

Anyway, just thought I’d share in case others would find her fascinating, too.
